iPhone ranting had been one of my regular topics for blog but since so long, I have been absconding from it. Its not that suddenly, I changed my heart and brain and started ignoring all miseries and hard time I face using this phone… but I just not had a strong reason to rant about. But luckily, I got one now which actually had been always there from even the first generation of iPhones…
This is a landscape mode for composing a text message on iPhone. At first look, its impressive… offers a Qwerty keyboard, choice of adding multiple recipients (which was missing in iOS 1.0), option to choose numeric mode of keyboard etc. But what is indeed annoying is the placement of “Send” button there in blue. It is simply placed at such a wrong place that accidently hitting it has a very high probability. Further annoying is that there is no way to cancel the sending of the message once you hit the “Send” button even accidently. Nokia and most phones has this eminent and important feature to cancel a message being sent (and saving yourself from a big aftereffect). But people at Apple expect the users of iPhones to be of very thin fingers and very perfect that they cannot hit “Send” button accidently.
Anyway, I have few more rants about it but I will spare them for later.
Few days back, the whole social networking world got very excited when Facebook introduced location service. It indeed is interesting to geotag your postings on Facebook. This evening, I tried to test it and ended up getting below message!
Seems location service is not available here in my part of the world. Its not surprising though. Hardly any telco company here complies with international standards of cellular service information. Most of the time, Google Maps on my iPhone shows my locations few Kms away from where actually I am.
Another interesting observation I had today about Airtel’s 3G service in Gujarat. Airtel hasn’t been that good in Gujarat from the very beginning. Even after few years of its service in Gujarat, it is still struggling to provide a quality service. Call dropping, no coverage, poor customer service, lack of intention to prevent unsolicited text messages from telemarketers and landing calls to wrong numbers are few of the complaints many of its users face on a daily basis. Unfortunately, we are stuck with Airtel for reason beyond my understanding and I have accepted it as it is. This evening, my data plan got approved and I can now use internet through my iPhone. This will help me especially for emails and any other quick information I may need while I am traveling. When I enabled cellular data service on my iPhone setting, I tried to check if Airtel provides 3G service in Gujarat (Ahmedabad at least). When I enabled 3G, below is the screen shot of what happened…
Did you notice I lost the signal??? So, if I enable 3G, I am just disconnected from Airtel service! Well, no wonder as 3G in India is still in its infancy.
Anyway, it would be interesting to end this post by sharing a picture recently I took using iPhone…
Unless you click on this picture and zoom it to its full size, you won’t be able to notice that its labeled “School bus” though it is for the students of “Alpha College of Engineering and Technolgy”! No wonder there is a lack of “grown up” students in our colleges. Either their parents don’t let them grow up or the college authorities treat them as school children… Too bad too bad, rt?
